Overcommitting

3 Simple Ways to Stop Overcommitting

Hey ,

From a show of hands, who is guilty of overcommitting…?

I don’t need to see the hands to know it’s VERY common.

It usually looks like this:

You said yes to your girlfriend months ago to go to an event with her Saturday. It felt like it was years away so you forgot about it and, of course, didn’t write it down.

Then there’s this amazing new restaurant opening that you’re stoked about trying and said yes to an invite with other friends.

Then you realize you have a work deadline and need to stay in, close the blinds, fall in a hole and get it done.

BUT then you realize you made all these other plans and have…. once again…. overcommitted.

It sucks.

It’s uncomfortable, it’s frustrating. You feel bad because now you have to do the dreaded calls and cancel on people. You feel like a flake.

There’s a simple way to avoid these situations.

Say no.

I know, I know, it’s easier said than done.

It’s time for you to live your life on your own terms, don’t you think?

It’s not that simple, I get it, but here me out.

Give yourself a limit.

You can break up your schedule however you see fit. For example, tell yourself you will only say yes to two events every weekend. Or that you can only set aside time for a commitment on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

You don’t owe anyone anything.

Remember that it’s not your job to please everyone. You shouldn’t feel bad for telling somebody no. You can tell the other person that you’re grateful to be included, but you won’t be able to commit this time around.

Be organized.

Set time limits for yourself. Give time blocking a try. Carry a planner with you.

Do whatever it takes to see the bigger picture; when you know what your long-term goals are, it will be easier for you to create daily goals to help you work ahead of your deadlines.

I hope you find this helpful, . Remember that this is your life to live!

Tell me, how are you going to make a change in your overcommitment habits?
